After seeing his guaranteed until 2025, B&B Hotels-KTM contract come to a premature end following the teams collapse,
Luca Mozzato wasted little time finding a new ride with
Team Arkéa Samsic. Now, with all the uncertainty put behind him, the Italian can cast an eye to the future.
Speaking on an episode of SpazioTalk, the 24-year-old discussed the collapse of his former employers and how it affected himself and the other riders on the team. "We were all particularly confident on the fact that this was a team with great prospects: this is what was breathed inside," Mozzato remembered. "The problem is that, late in the transfer season, the project floundered, we don't know exactly what happened. Seeing this situation emerge has left the riders and staff free to seek alternative accommodation."
As mentioned, Mozzato will ride in 2023 for Arkea Samsic. Whilst many riders affected by B&B Hotels-KTM falling apart have found it quite difficult to find new teams, this wasn't the case for Mozzato. "What helped me the most was the fact that in any case the past year was a positive year for me," he explains. "So I was strong in this and maybe even in the team there was the idea that I was a good rider. Seeing the opportunity they took me."
Looking ahead to the 2023 season, Mozzato is focusing on self-improvement. As he says himself, he's not quite at the level of the pelotons top sprinters just yet. "I think I'm still missing something at the moment," he admits. "We will have to try to fill this gap slowly and I don't know if next year will be the good one, if it will take me a few more years or if I will ever get there. But surely on paper, the goal is that."
