In the second stage of the Deutschland Tour, Gregor Mühlberger surprised the competition by attacking with twenty kilometers to go. In the final he was able to deal with fellow escapee Florian Stork and thus took his third victory of the season.
In the hilly and rainy final towards Winterberg it was also a surprise for Mühlberger that he went on the attack. The team's plan was drawn up differently in advance.
"We had in mind to ride for Alex, because he was in a good position in the general classification. On the Altastenberg they rode really hard for the bonus seconds and then I moved to the right side of the road. I had a small gap, so I went for it. In my earpiece Alex yelled 'go go go' and I had Stork on my wheel."
"Together with Stork, I thought we could give it a try. If they had caught me back I would have tried to work for Aranburu, but luckily I made it to the finish." Mühlbeger crossed the finish line solo with a lead of ten seconds. Aranburu crossed the line second.
