Visma | Lease a Bike's start at the Czech Tour was mainly interesting thanks to the return of Thomas Gloag. The young British climber was away from racing for almost a year following complicated knee injury. And is there a better way to return to action than winning a mountain queen stage? We doubt so.
Besides that one stage triumph, Visma can't really look at the general classification with a satisfaction, because neither the Dutch leaders Koen Bouwman and Milan Vader, nor the young Norwegian Johannes Staune-Mittet were able to keep up with the best and 13th place from Gloag is below the Dutch team's potential. A small consolidation prize is the victory in team classification.
Sports director Robert Wagner looks back. "It was a short but tough stage. The wind played a big role today. About 40 kilometres from the finish, Soudal - Quick-Step upped the pace. Matthew, Dario and Milan were able to follow. They rode a fine race, but unfortunately this was the best possible result today."
"We can look back on a good race," Wagner continued. "Of the four stages, we managed to win one with Thomas Gloag. In addition, we managed to win the team classification. That shows we had a nice collective performance. I hope this Czech Tour was a good preparation for the races to follow in the coming period. We are looking forward to that."
