In France this week a tragedy has shocked the country, as there was an attack on children and several other people in a play park in the city of Annecy in the Alps. The attack has gotten international attention but has felt extremely close to Jonas Vingegaard, who reveals he and his family have been there several times.
“Racing was secondary today because of what happened in Annecy. My thoughts are with the victims' families," Vingegaard said at the start of today's stage. “My wife Trine and daughter Frida are staying in Annecy at the moment, as usual. We also often go to the playground where it happened. So they could both have been there when the drama unfolded. Luckily they weren't there and unfortunately others were. That is really terrible."
After taking the stage win on the fifth day of the Dauphiné, Vingegaard used his time in the flash interview to display his support with the victims of the attack, which at the time being see two children in critical condition.
The Dauphiné ends in the Alps this weekend and Vingegaard's family is staying in the region, and has been seen with the race leader in recent days. It is an emotional situation for him he tells.
