The fourth day of the Vuelta a Burgos was one for the breakaway to enjoy as the battled for the win, and another day for the young riders aa Bahrain - Victorious' Matevz Govekar took the stage win.
A 14-rider group went up the road early and built a healthy gap of around four minutes. The peloton, led by EF Education-EasyPost, Burgos-BH and Equipo Kern Pharma, managed to shorten the gap, but eventually had to give in as there was not enough willpower in the peloton to bring back the group.
Eventually the break split up, with Pieter Serry, Lluís Mas, Patrick Gamper, Xabier Azparren, Omer Goldstein, Matevz Govekar and Valentin Retailleau were the ones making it into the winning move.
The seven-rider group saw several attacks before the final hilltop at Ciudad Romana de Clunia. They all went together for the sprint however with Goldstein opening it up first, but eventually the two young guns in the group went to the front of the group, and the win fell for Matevz Govekar of Bahrain - Victorious.
Just two months into his contract with the team, he's made it worth already, as the Slovenian took his first pro win, beating Retailleau and Goldstein at the sprint. The peloton arrived relatively compact with no differences created.
