Simon Clarke and Alessandro De Marchi were both looking for the first Giro d'Italia stage wins of their long careers. Heartbreakingly for the experienced duo they were caught with the finish line in sight.
As the leading pair began to look at each other and play a bit of cat and mouse, the sprinters began to launch their final efforts and Fernando Gaviria flew past Clarke and De Marchi with just 200m to go breaking the breakaway hearts.
