This year's Paris-Roubaix ended up a thrilling race in which Jumbo-Visma came close to another strong triumph as Wout van Aert rode into second place, after returning from a Covid-induced break. Christophe Laporte set on the road as a co-leader, however was the only rider of the team who didn't complete the 257 kilometers.

The Frenchman suffered from a number of mishaps during the race. One of them, caught on camera by a spectator, saw the Frenchman drift to a halt during the fourth cobbles sector of the race in Saint-Phyton. It had seemed as if Laporte suffered a puncture in his rear wheel, and due to the impact of the cobbles his wheel broke, leading to a very unusual situation where luckily he avoided a crash.
