Maxim Van Gils' is feeling the effects of his
UCI suspension, with the 2024 road season about to get underway. Despite admitting his mistake for his slapping of a rival in a sprint at the
Japan Cup Criterium, Van Gils doesn't believe the punishment matches the crime.
"I'm relieved it's been resolved. But I find the 25-day suspension very harsh for what I have done," the
Lotto Dstny rider tells Vélofuté. I think many would have acted like I did. However, I understand that the UCI has made an example of my case and is firm in terms of punishment. I understand and fully accept their decision."
