Tom Dumoulin will be retiring from pro cycling at the end of this season, and he is having the time-trial World championships as his final goal within the peloton, where he will look to get a medal in Wollongong.
The race will be taking place in the 19th of September, less than two months from now, and will take the riders through a 34.2-kilometer long route in the city that will be hosting the events. He took the title back in 2017, and remains having high ambitions in the discipline where he will be a contender for gold.
He's revealed his program ahead of the Worlds to Wielerflits, sharing that he will return to competition at the Clásica San Sebastián at the end of July. In August he should ride the Danmark Rundt which starts in the 16th and sees five stages, and finally the Bretagne Classic in the 28th of August.
With no time-trials, it's likely that the Dutchman will look to make some adjustments to the schedule still, however the target is set. He's currently training at altitude in Livigno before travelling down to Spain, and will also ride Il Lombardia later in the year as likely his last race.
