"The fall shows that we had a point to remove this run-up to the Kanarieberg from the Tour" - Flanders Classics CEO reacts to Dwars door Vlaanderen crash

A serious crash at high speed in Dwars Door Vlaanderen will have major consequences for a number of top favorites of the Tour of Flanders. Wout van Aert, Jasper Stuyven and Mads Pedersen, among others, crashed hard in the dangerous descent to the Kanarieberg.

It is precisely the descent that has been removed from the Tour of Flanders because it has been classified as too unsafe. "Unfortunately, the fall shows that we had a point to remove this run-up to the Kanarieberg from the Tour," responds Tomas Van Den Spiegel, CEO of organizer Flanders Classics, in Sporza broadcast.

But why has the dangerous descent been removed from the Tour of Flanders route, but not from Dwars Door Vlaanderen? "The Tour is even bigger, more important and faster. There's even more pressure there. We want to prevent falls as much as possible. But it remains a dangerous sport and we will evaluate after this race. It is possible that the Kanarieberg will disappear from these spring races."
