"Looking to the future" - Pogacar passes maglia rosa duty on to Isaac del Toro

Tadej Pogacar isn't racing at the 2025 Giro d'Italia, which he dominated last year, but he's keeping a close eye on what's going on. The world's best cyclist is delighted with what his UAE Team Emirates - XRG teammates are doing in the race and, after congratulating Juan Ayuso for his stage win a few days ago, yesterday he did the same to Isaac del Toro for securing the maglia rosa.

Thus, in a post on his personal Instagram account, Pogi uploaded a photo in which he appears having breakfast (him drinking coffee and Del Toro biting a croissant) next to the Mexican talent along with the following message: "Looking to the future, enjoy the maglia rosa."

Big praise from the World Champion for the young star. And, we wonder how Juan Ayuso feels about that...

Yesterday's gravel stage was impressive, and confirmed the great first week for Del Toro. He finished second behind Wout van Aert in the Piazza del Campo in Siena and is now the race leader with 1:13 over Juan Ayuso, 1:30 over Antonio Tiberi, 1:40 over Richard Carapaz and no less than 2:25 over Primoz Roglic, who is down in tenth. These are precious hours that the young Del Toro is living at the moment.

Tadej Pogacar is currently in Sierra Nevada, in the classic altitude camp preparing his next big goal of the year, the Tour de France. We'll see if he also races the Vuelta a España at the end of the season, if he wants to complete his grand tour hat-trick. For the moment, to begin 2025 he has already won several races including 2 more monuments in the form of the Tour of Flanders and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
