Giovanni Aleotti of BORA - hansgrohe took the win on an exciting and dramatic stage 3 of the 2024 Tour of Slovenia on Friday afternoon. A little further back down the road however, there was some controversy developing.
Uno-X Mobility's Johannes Kulset was left fuming as being disqualified by the race jury, who adjudged him to have taken up an illegal position on a descent. Taking to social media afterwards, the 20-year-old Norwegian vented his frustrations on the situation and pleaded to rider's union ASO boss Adam Hansen for some help going forward with his complaints against the race and the jury.
"So, yesterday I got disqualified after the finish in Tour of Slovenia for the way I rode in the last decent," begins Kulset's reflection of the situation, posting a video image of his bike position on the descent, that he hopes will help prove his innocence. "I know the rules - and I did nothing wrong. I never touched the top tube, or used forearms/chest as point of support."
Although as he mentions, Kulset is adamant that he knows what the rules are, the talented Norwegian youngster isn't too sure about the knowledge of the race jury at the 2024 Tour of Slovenia, being heavily critical of those in charge in his tweets. "The commissioners admitted they didn't know the rules, but still didn't want to change the wrong decision," Kulset fumes on his socials. "I'm obviously not allowed to start today. But I would like an apology from UCI to avoid someone else getting wrongly disqualified in the future," he concludes before tagging the aforementioned Adam Hansen.
You can see the video evidence posted by the Norwegian for yourself down below and make up your own mind as to whether or not Kulset is in the illegal 'SuperTuck' position!
