The team of the overall race leader Tao Geoghegan Hart, the
INEOS Grenadiers were the ones at the front of the peloton doing the majority of the work to bring the front group back into contention. As the race came through the 20km to go banner however the leading trio still had a 2:23 gap.
With Carr attacking his breakaway companions, the pace of the peloton ramp up as the race took on the penultimate climb. With 7.3kms to go the chase was complete and the ever diminishing peloton was now at the front of the race.
INEOS continued to set a high tempo with rider after rider dropping off the back of the group and struggling to hold the wheel,
Santiago Buitrago decided to see if he could get a gap by attacking off the front and taking the final king of the mountains points of the day.
Pavel Sivakov managed to reel the Colombian back in for the INEOS Grenadiers although the race had now been ripped apart. A group of just nine riders led at the front of the race.
With 1km to go Jefferson Alexander Cepeda made his move although he was quickly brought back. Around the final corner disaster struck for the runner-up on stage one Felix Gall. As the racing continued ahead, Geoghegan Hart proved the quickest yet again and secured back-to-back victories ahead of
Jack Haig and Buitrago.
