It didn't look like it taking into consideration the results, but Tadej Pogacar fell slightly ill last week at the Giro d'Italia. However, after a much needed rest day, the leader of the race reports that he is feeling better in the meantime.
“My cold is better, we'll see how it goes and how tired I am already. The nasal congestion should clear up completely in the next two or three days," Pogacar told Eurosport this morning. “We will race as we do every day. We control and keep the entire team together well. Other riders will have to ride fast if they want to be in the breakaway.”
An open plan for UAE Team Emirates into stage 10, with Pogacar being the main favourite but in a day well suited to a breakaway. With three stage wins under the belt, it would not come as a surprise to see him let go the escapee groups whilst trying to conserve some energy for the Tour de France as he argued during this past Monday.
“It seems like a long climb when I look at the elevation profile. That is not easy, with some descending sections in between," he said of the ascent to Bocca della Selva which will bring today's stage to a close. "It will be interesting to see the dynamics, but I think it would be a nice finish.”
