The Grenadiers are back after the rest day and on the offensive at the #Giroditalia 🙌 We've seen @SwiftConnor, @NarvaezJho, @MagnusSheffield and now @GannaFilippo off the front trying to establish a gap on stage 🔟
Geraint Thomas enters the second week of the Giro d'Italia 2:58 minutes back on Tadej Pogacar and has good feedback from the first rest day. The leader of INEOS Grenadiers does not exclude a GC fight on today's difficult summit finish.
“I had a good rest day, although the first week went by very quickly. All riders react differently to such a rest day," Thomas said in the microphone of Eurosport this morning. "Most riders therefore go for a short ride to keep their body running. The start will also be very fast, I expect quite a big fight for the breakaway of the day.”
Physically and mentally, it was a necessary day for Thomas who crashed on stage 9 into Napoli and was very critical of the poor road conditions in the final descent. "I am fine. My elbow was of course hit, but I suffered no consequences," he tells however, in more positive words. His focus will be in the long-term of the race and it is not expected that he will be attacking today's finale, but he keeps his options open for what may happen.
“It's a long final climb, but steady. The most difficult part are the last seven kilometers, until there it is not that steep. There is also quite a bit of headwind. It won't be very bad for the classification men, but that depends on several things. You have to be ready for anything," Thomas anticipated.
