Soudal - Quick-Step rode a very aggressive Dwars door het Hageland, initiating key moves in the peloton while always being present up front with multiple riders in decisive parts of the race. In the final, it all came down to a sprint of three, where Stan Van Tricht represented the Belgian lineup. The 23-year old however had to bow down to 2021 race winner Rasmus Tiller (Uno-X) who saved most power for the final kick.
"I did a good effort and gave everything, but it was difficult against Rasmus, who has a lot of experience on the cobbles and has already won here a couple of years ago. I just missed that extra kick in the finale, which is a pity, as the whole team did a great job today. On the other hand, I am happy I did a good race and showed what I’m capable of," Van Tricht said.
Soudal - Quick-Step entered the second half of season hoping to write a new chapter in their 2023 story. Their classics season was last-minute saved by Remco Evenepoel's triumph at Liege-Bastogne-Liege, but the very same rider didn't fulfill the hopes the team had in him for Giro d'Italia, as he had to pull out from the race halfway thorugh with covid.
