Completely exhausted after his exhibition, an exhausted Isaac del Toro spoke to official Tour Down Under television just after crossing the finish line. Speechless, the Mexican had just net his first pro win under impressive circumstances.
It was his first official race since winning the Tour de l'Avenir at the end of last August after his exhibition on the Col de la Loze and taking all the possible classifications. Now, in his first WorldTour race, he won brilliantly at just 20 years of age. This is his first World Tour win and triumph among the elites. After a third spot at the Down Under Classic, he has once again impressed.
Thus, he could hardly articulate words in front of the microphone: "This is crazy, this is very emotional". After some late attacks from the likes of Luke Plapp and Quinn Simmons were reeled in, Del Toro put in a seated acceleration inside the final kilometer, and despite being a climber, had the power to hold off the charging peloton which still included several sprinters close to the front.
The journalist insisted and del Toro could barely conclude by commenting the following, always with a big smile on his face: "Last year was crazy, but maybe this year I've started very well, I don't know, I don't know what to say".
