Rigoberto Uran decides to end pro cycling career after 2024 Olympic Games

Rigoberto Urán will retire from pro cycling. The decision is taken and this will take place following the Olympic Games that will be raced in Paris next summer.

“I'll continue until next year, we'll go to the Olympics and that's it," Uran said during a visit to the Atletico Nacional football field. The Colombian is a superstar back home in Colombia and organizes the famous Giro di Rigo, his presence in the sport following retirement is safe. Part of EF Education-EasyPost, the 36-year old will hang up the wheels after turning pro in 2006. He's witnessed countless generations show up throughout his career.

Uran is one of the most popular riders in the peloton, but his stardom was mainly due to his results and undeniable climbing quality. He was second at the 2012 Olympic Games, the race where he will say goodbye to the sport. He was the winner of other one-day races such as the GP de Québec and Milano-Torino.

However at the Grand Tours is where he thrived, finishing second at both the 2013 and 2014 Giro d'Italia, as well as the 2017 Tour de France only behind Chris Froome. He finished in the Top10 of Grand Tours on six other occasions. He's one of the few riders in the peloton to have won stages in all three Grand Tours, of which he raced an impressive amount of 24.
