Individual time trial world champion Tobias Foss looks set to be one of the key cogs in the Jumbo-Visma machine at the upcoming Giro d'Italia and he couldn't be more excited to prove his worth.
"I'm going to ride the Giro to assist Primož Roglič," the 25-year-old Norwegian tells WielerFlits. “We are going for the overall win and Primož is without a doubt our best card to play for that. I'm really looking forward to that. I myself get opportunities as a leader in the Volta ao Algarve and the Tour de Romandie. I want to prepare myself better than ever for this season, especially the Giro. I want to show myself if I get the chance."
With Foss now in the final twelve months of his Jumbo-Visma contract and questions around whether or not he will get the chance to lead if he stays, there is more than just race wins and pleasing sponsors on the Norwegian's mind this year.
"You can always take steps forward here if you show that you are ready or good enough. But if you look at all the leaders in our team, you almost have to crawl through the eye of the needle to start a race as a leader or in a free role," he explains. “Whether I stay depends entirely on what the team's ambitions are with me and where they see my future. Then we have to see if that fits my personal goals."
