Egan Bernal's start to the season is not currently improving. After showing great signs of form during the Vuelta a San Juan, the Colombian's knee injury continues to persist and sees Bernal pull out of the Vuelta a Andalucia.
Bernal crashed during the opening day of the Argentinian race. Although it had little or no impact at the time, in the final day Bernal was not at the start of the race despite having climbed to an overwhelmingly positive fourth place in the overall classification. Although the team initially talked about how there was no concern, his planned schedule is now being delayed.
Bernal had his start to the European season set for the Vuelta a Andalucia, something which the race organizers themselves had shared on social media. It was a solid plan as Bernal looks to get back to his best level, with him set to aim at Paris-Nice and the Volta a Catalunya as the main goals this spring.
Bernal will not miss the Spanish race where Tadej Pogacar will be present, according to Gazzetta dello Sport's Ciro Scognamiglio. It is said that "he's not at 100 per cent after knee pain at Vuelta a San Juan", but remains having Paris-Nice in his schedule, as he looks to first of all fully recovery from the injury.
