PREVIEW | Gran Camino 2024 - Jonas Vingegaard starts his season with time-trial and mountains to test his form; Uijtdebroeks, Bernal and Carapaz interesting outsiders

Preview. From the 22nd to the 25th of February the Spanish peloton takes on O Gran Camiño. Jonas Vingegaard headlines the race that features days for the climbers to test their early-season form.

The Torre de Hercules hosts the finale of the first stage of the race. This is a 15-kilometer time-trial which is not flat by any means. It finishes a couple of hilltops during the course, and then a cobbled climb to the line. This time-trial in La Coruna will be a good warm-up for the following days.

Stage 2 features a very hilly and difficult stage from Taboada to Chantada. It is only 151 kilometers in distance but the riders find climbing all day long. The peloton finds a two-lap circuit to end the stage, with the finale just a few kilometers after a 5.2-kilometer climb that averages 6.1%.

Stage 3 features several climbs. The whole day is close to the border with Portugal, and features a few small climbs. A day for the puncheurs perhaps, it is very open. A final climb of 4.5 kilometers at 5.7% summits with 20 kilometers to go. There are no flat roads from there onwards though, with a few small climbs and a large descent taking the riders into Castelo de Ribadavia.

The final stage of the race is the one where the climbers will really be taken to the limit. The stage has quite a tough explosive start, but the differences will be made towards the end. Near the city of Tui, the riders climb the Monte Aloisa twice - the final time coinciding with the finish line. The ascent is 7.1 kilometers long at 8%, a very difficult effort ahead of the spring.
