Peter Sagan's time in the professional road peloton has come to an end, meaning so too has his time with TotalEnergies. A large part of the team's budget some believed the Slovakian did not deliver a good return on investment but TotalEnergies themselves retain a positive outlook.
"The first feeling is that the results, for us, are positive. It's been two rich years alongside Peter," TotalEnergies sports director Benoît Genauzeau tells Cyclism'Actu. "The feedback was immense, it was interesting to compare his practice, his approach to cycling. What he does doesn't exist, it's not written in any book, he's a champion, an artist."
As mentioned, Sagan was a large part of TotalEnergies budget, although in his two years with the French-based team, there were just two victories. Stage 3 of the 2022 Tour de Suisse and the 2022 Slovakian National Championships.
"Obviously we imagined seeing him a little higher in the hierarchy, seeing him conclude with a little more victories. So of course the sporting record is a little more mixed," admits Genauzeau. "But we always try to remember the positive things and Peter brought a lot to our project. The feedback from the runners is very good, he helped and allowed the group to grow in certain aspects, whether for the runners or for the staff."
