Pedro Delgado thinks the upcoming Spanish generation still needs a bit of time: "There is an impatience to repeat the success of the past"

The legendary former Spanish cyclist, Pedro Delgado, winner of a Tour de France and two Vueltas a Espana, has requested Spanish cycling fans to remain calm as the Spain continues the search for new big Champion in an interview during the traditional Christmas Turkey Race in Segovia.

"There is an impatience to repeat the success of cyclists of the past with those of now, but the riders still need to mature before they can make a name for themself," warned Delgado, highlighting that "we want the champion right away, but everything takes its time."

Delgado praised the development of young talents such as Juan Ayuso and Carlos Rodríguez, as well as Enric Mas, while noting that Spain is going through a transition cycle after the era of legendary figures such as Alberto Contador, Alejandro Valverde and Joaquim Rodríguez came to an end.

When referring to the 2024 Olympic Games, Delgado expressed that the Paris circuit "is not the most suitable" for the profile of Spanish cyclists. However, he mentioned that Álex Aranburu and Iván García Cortina have a potential to leave their mark in the race.
