Stage 3 of the 2023 Tour de l'Avenir was a team time-trial as the stars of the future battle it out. Denmark took the win, but it was Belgium's final corner drama that took the headlines.
As the team rounded the final corner, Alec Segaert was on the front of the four-man train. Losing his front wheel though, the youngster smashed into the barriers. Thankfully for the Belgians, it had already been determined pre-race that if there were any incidents in the final kilometre only the top riders' times would be needed.
"Only managed to start with 4, but still completely threw us," said Segaert after the race on his X (Twitter) account. "Own fault, completely misjudged corner. Luckily time of 3rd man counts if breakdown/crash in last km. So still 3rd."
