Oier Lazkano looks forwards to rematch with the Koppenberg at Tour of Flanders: "We will come back next year"

Oier Lazkano showed once again at the Tour of Flanders that he is cut out for days like this. Afterwards, however, a disaster struck Lazkano on the Koppenberg when he had to get off the bike and that seemingly broke his morale, crossing the line far behind the best, in 73rd.

"The race went perfectly until the Koppenberg," Lazkano looks back for WielerFlits. "We sat where we were supposed to sit. But yes, we lost control on the Koppenberg. We had to get off the bike and lost a lot of time and positions. That was a bit frustrating, but I really enjoyed this race, the fans and the crowd. We will come back next year."

On the second time at Oude Kwaremont, Lazkano was even able to close the gap to Mathieu van der Poel on his own. "We knew it was a very important moment. It wasn't as bad as on the Koppenberg, but it was still very slippery. Did I still think that Van der Poel could be beaten? We came here without fear of anyone. He is a great rider, but we had to ride our own race."
