The transfers is official.
Miguel Ángel López, after his contract termination with Astana Qazaqtstan Team, has returned to Colombia and will race for
Team Medellin - EPM.
The Colombian was fired by the Kazakh team following connections with a Spanish doping ring. For several months an investigation had been ongoing in Spain, and López was deeply involved in it. It is rumoured that his abandon at the Giro d'Italia may have happened due to a reaction to a growth hormone known as Menotropin.
Despite this, he is currently not suspended as there are currently no evidence of use of prohibited substances. Unlike his compatriot Nairo Quintana however, López has secured a spot in the peloton for the 2023 season.
He is now heading towards Colombia as was reported earlier this week. His calendar will revolve around the continental team's schedule and he is meant to be a headliner, alongside the likes of Oscar Sevilla and Fabio Duarte with whom he will share a team.
