Neilson Powless has secured victory in the Japan Cup Cycle Road Race. He won the race with 12 second lead over his teammate Andrea Piccolo. It's his first victory of the season.
A group of escapes emerged in the first 10 minutes of the race. Giulio Ciccone, Julien Bernard, Jacopo Mosca, Antwan Tolhoek, Johan Price-Pejtersen, Andrea Piccolo, Tim Wellens, James Shaw, Unai Cuadrado and Kosuke Takeyama. The group took a lead of 1 minute and 10 seconds.
Six other riders joined the breakaway, but the peloton lagged in the 6th lap. However, it was not long before the peloton caught up with the escapees. Takaaki Hori and Dylan Hopkins attacked and managed to create a small gap. The peloton first caught Hori, while Hopkins joined the peloton near the Kogashi summit.
