"Namur is a tough course, but I hope to do well there" - Blanka Kata Vas wins Nacht van Woerden, beating Marianne Vos

Blanka Kata Vas has had an alternative start to her cyclocross season, opting with the closer-to-home Toi Toi Cup races to build her form, and has in the Netherlands and Belgium raced secondary races. Yesterday at the Nacht van Woerden, she took her fifth win of the season.

“It was very slippery in the corners. However, I was good in the corners and I was able to make the difference there. I knew I had to start in the lead on the final lap, as it is difficult to overtake on this course. I went for it and was able to finish it," Vas said after the finish, having beaten Vos.

The two riders, alongside Puck Pieterse, stood out as the strongest riders in the day, riding most of the race together in front. Vas had finished fifth in the Tabor World Cup last weekend proving her good form, but has taken her most important win of the season as she beat Vos in the final lap, distancing herself in the technical circuit.

“My eyes aren't very good in the dark, so I was a little scared. However, it was a lot of fun to do, also because we could count on a lot of encouragement," the said of the race which took place at night, unlike the grand majority of the calendar.

Having good form coming into the cyclocross season, Vas is already eyeing the European Championships and success there. “Namur is a tough course, but I hope to do well there," she concluded.
