21-year-old Hungarian Blanka Kata Vas had defeated a strong field including the likes of World Champion Marianne Vos to emerge victorious at the Night of Woerden.
In any sport the added drama and ambience that comes with dark skies and floodlights seemingly never fails to bring excitement. Cycling is no different and for the first time in 2 years the evening cross in the Utrecht region returned, full of drama.
Runner up from last week's World Cup race in Tábor, Puck Pieterse looked to go one better here and got off to the fastest start from the pack. Closely followed by the likes of Marianne Vos and Blanka Kata Vas it wasn't long before the Hungarian began to take control.
The SD Worx rider began to put the pressure on and managed to ride all but Vos and Pieterse from contention. On the final lap Vas went hard and finally managed to break the elastic, riding clear of her two rivals and claiming her 5th victory of the season so far.
