Movistar Team's 2023 in numbers: the shadow of relegation looms again

Movistar Team finished the 2023 season as the 12th best team in the UCI ranking, sandwiched between EF Education Easy-Post and Team Jayco AlUla and far behind BORA - hansgrohe in points (more than 2000).

Thus, we can safely say that it is immersed in mediocrity and that it is closer to relegation than the aforementioned tenth place in the ranking. Today we want to review the victories achieved by the team in 2023 that explain the low number of points they have accumulated.

There have been a total of 16 and only 3 of them at UCI WorldTour level (the victories of Einer Rubio in the Giro d'Italia and the UAE Tour) and that of Fernando Gaviria in the Tour de Romandie. The man who has won the most is Oier Lazkano with a total of four victories and the man who has scored the most points is Matteo Jorgenson (ahead of Alex Aranburu and Enric Mas).

Together with them, only Einer Rubio is able to exceed 1000 points. Lazkano and Iván García Cortina are above 700. Behind them are the two star signings of the year, Fernando Gaviria and Ruben Guerreiro, both of whom won a few races at the beginning of the year, but contributed much less than expected. Of note is the woeful last year of Carlos Verona, who failed to reach 200 UCI points.
