The newspaper Marca has released a list of the highest paid Spanish sportsmen and, among the top 100, there is no cyclist in a list absolutely dominated by soccer, although the first place is occupied by golfer John Rahm. Among the cyclists, Mikel Landa is the highest paid of all with a contract of 2 million euros in Bahrain Victorious (we do not know what will be his cache next season in Soudal Quick-Step).
Behind Mikel, according to Marca, three cyclists from three different teams would be paid the same amount: Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates), Pello Bilbao (Bahrain Victorious) and Enric Mas (Movistar Team) would be paid 1.2 million euros each.
These salaries make very clear the difference between Movistar and more powerful teams like Bahrain and UAE, since their top leader is paid the same as very important but secondary riders in the other two teams.
Precisely the rider from Granada (Carlos Rodríguez) would become the highest paid Spanish cyclist in 2024 if he signs his agreed renewal with the INEOS Grenadiers team. The fifth-placed rider in the last Tour de France would earn almost 3 million a year, a figure much higher than the rest of the Spaniards at the moment. It is surprising that Juan Ayuso does not appear in these first positions.
