Michel Wuyts does not doubt of Mathieu van der Poel domination at cyclocross World Championships: "If he is still part of the front group in the second lap, it will be out of pity for the viewer"

Only just over a week for the Cyclocross World Championships in Tabor. Mathieu van der Poel is in the driving seat when it comes to favouritism for the rainbow jersey, and Belgian analyst Michel Wuyts believes no-one at the moment is able to match him.

"If he is still part of the front group in the second lap, it will be out of pity for the viewer. Don't worry, a stunning solo can also be beautiful. For the so-called haters: an old man from Schiedam helps," Michel Wuyts told In de Leiderstrui. "Even repeatedly. It looks like the Dutchman wants to make timed solos his trademark. His one-man feat of 22 kilometers at the World Championships in Glasgow has given him unparalleled joy."

Wout van Aert was victorious in Benidorm but will not make the trip over to the Czech Republic. Van der Poel was beaten for the first time in this past weekend this season, however that was a fruit of two mishaps who took significant time off a very fast race.

Wuyts also commented on the Dutchman's move to Spain, and the benefit that it has brought him in terms of endurance: "More pleasure in endurance training and the longer wait before attacking work made his finals even more efficient. Van der Poel says he no longer has any wattage loss between kilometers 240 and 260. Hence his impressive solos to Sanremo and Roubaix," he concluded, with the Glasgow World Championships as perhaps the most impressive display of that evolution.
