Social media is not always easy for pro athletes, who have their performances and life discussed everyday by strangers.
Michael Matthews has brought that debate back as he announced a departure from social media.
"Hey everyone it's time for a break for me from social media, I'll be back stronger," he said in an Instagram post. The Australian rider has seen his spring campaign wrecked by a Covid-19 infection suffered right before Milano-Sanremo. He has managed to return to racing in the meantime but was forced to miss several cobbled classics and abandoned the Tour of Flanders. After a promising start to the season he now finds himself short of the form needed to perform in the Ardennes, and will focus on the Tour de France later in the year.
