Max Walscheid has somewhat surprisingly taken victory at Omloop van het Houtland 2024 ahead of Team Jayco AlUla teammate Dylan Groenewegen.
Heading into the final 30km, a seven man leading group had seen their advantage over the peloton cut to just over 30 seconds. At 10km to go, they still dangled tantalisingly out ahead of the peloton, but with 4.6km to go, every one of the attackers had been swallowed up by the bunch.
From there, it was always going to be a bunch sprint to decide the day and in the end, it was Max Walscheid who powered to the victory in Lichtervelde ahead of Team Jayco AlUla teammate Dylan Groenewegen.
