Primoz Roglic was nearly struck with a disaster on Monte Bondone when he found himself unable to follow attack of Geraint Thomas and Joao Almeida. Luckily for the Slovenian, he still had his loyal mountain domestique Sepp Kuss by his side to help him reduce losses to minimum. It's now up to Jumbo-Visma to take the iniciative in four remaining stages.
“Finally a quiet day for the riders. That is never an unnecessary luxury at a grand tour. We got through the stage well,” said Reef, who briefly looks back on Tuesday's mountain stage to Monte Bondone in which Roglic was hit by Thomas and Joao Almeida. “Yesterday has impacted the entire peloton.”
The upcoming stages will be of great importance for Jumbo-Visma. “We are already looking forward to the coming tough days,” says Reef on the team site. “We are one of the few teams still completely complete. That will certainly work to our advantage. INEOS Grenadiers must control the course. They have only five riders. Maybe we can exploit that advantage in a stage like tomorrow.”
Rohan Dennis hopes to be of value to Roglič. “He still has every chance to win this race. Hopefully he has the legs in the coming days. The competitors are strong. We may be able to play it smart and outwit them that way,” says the Australian domestique.
