After finishing second overall at the Tour de France Femmes last season, Lotte Kopecky is now reportedly set to miss this year’s race as she has chosen to focus instead on the Olympic Games this summer.
The Belgian rider is set to race both the road and track events in Paris, similarly to what she did at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. On the boards, she will be riding the omnium, whilst she will also try to win the road race as well.
It would be tough for her to compete in the Tour de France Femmes, which has been moved in the calendar to fall after the games in Paris, as the omnium events end just a day before the start of the French stage race.
In an interview with Sporza, Kopecky’s SD Worx-Protime team manager Danny Stam said “the omnium ends on Sunday afternoon, the Tour starts on Monday morning. It is almost impossible to do that properly. Combining those two events would also be a very difficult task mentally. If you were to win Olympic gold, it would be too short a day to start the Tour the next morning”.
