This Sunday saw the finale of the Giro d'Italia, however in the women's peloton some big stars lit up Great Britain as the best sprinters in the world rode the RideLondon Classique, with three stages that saw Team DSM's Lorena Wiebes dominate the race.
“As expected it was a really fast lap with a lot going on, but the team kept me safe during the stage. All the time I was protected by the girls, they all did an amazing job today," Wiebes said after winning the third stage out of three in London.
She emphasized the importance of her teammates as she rode into a wildly successful weekend: "I think we really showed ourselves as a team especially in the lead out, it was a super strong lead out from all of the girls. Then Charlotte in the last 500 metres brought me into a perfect position, speeding up."
"Without the team the last three days were not possible. It was really a team effort, I think a lot of people forget that but cycling is a team sport," Wiebes concluded. The 23-year old has already taken eight wins this year and shows no sign of slowing down. Her next race is yet unsure, but she will be eyeing the Tour de France Femmes later on this year.
