Groupama - FDJ's Lenny Martinez has taken the win at the 61st edition of Trofeo Laigueglia this Wednesday afternoon, after a thrilling finale on the Italian coast.
After a five-man break got away early, things were all back together heading into the final 50km. It didn't take long for a counter-attack and that came in the form of man-in-form, Lorenzo Rota. When that move didn't stick though, the next attack, including Lenny Martinez, Christian Scaroni and Andrea Vendrame looked a lot more viable.
With 10km to go, the leading quintet were around 20 seconds clear. This wasn't enough for Martinez though who launched a brutal attack, leaving all his companions in the dust except Jan Christen, before a second kick did for the UAE Team Emirates rider too. Into the final kilometre, victory was assured for the diminutive French climber, with Vendrame and Juan Ayuso completing the podium behind.
