Kristen Faulkner managed to win the queen stage of the Giro d’Italia Donne. She attacked early on, stayed ahead of the peloton, and made it to the finish line with a lead of over a minute against second place holder Marta Cavalli.
Georgia Baker and Amanda Spratt had to drop out of the tour because of Covid-19, so she had no one left to lean on for support. "Last year in the Giro d'Italia Donne, I was always from behind, so this is very special. Yesterday two of our riders couldn't start because of the corona, So I wanted to give everything for them and the team. I wanted to make a nice show of it," said Faulkner.
The last stage of the tour will be held on Sunday, which will decide the winner, "In this Giro, I can't really predict anything. But we have some sprinters in the team, so I hope it will be a bunch of sprint and one of them can finish it" concluded Faulkner. She currently holds 10th position in GC, 18 minutes and 28 seconds behind overall leader Annemiek van Vleuten.
