Koen Bouwman will be a part of the Jumbo-Visma team in the Vuelta a España. He will be replacing Steven Kruijswijk.
Initially, Bouwman was not part of the originally planned team, and he even confirmed the news in an episode of the TV program De Avondetappeof. "In principle, I will not be at the start. I am the last rider to drop out. It was between me and Edoardo Affini. The team chose Edoardo because there are quite a few flat stages. So I will ride a slightly different program", said Bouwman .
Kruijswijk was meant to participate in the upcoming tour, but he crashed in the fifteenth stage of the Tour de France and suffered a collarbone fracture, a dislocated shoulder, and a broken shoulder blade. His injuries will take a long time to heal, certainly not before Vuelta a España, so the team picked the next best option, Bouwman.
