Kobe Goossens' recovery from covid is not continuing smoothly: "I feel like I don't like training"

Kobe Goossens one of the pillars of Intermarché-Wanty-Circus breakthrough start to 2023 season. The Belgian won two races in Mallorca, which he followed with good performances during whole spring. The 27-year old however had to stop at Tour de Romandie with covid and the recovery is not going ideally as he explains.

"Already during Liège-Bastogne-Liège I realized that there was something wrong with my body," Het Nieuwsblad echoes Goossens words. "Things got worse during Romandie, where I ended up withdrawing. From there I didn't touch the bike for two weeks."

"I feel like I don't like training and anyone who knows me knows how serious this is for someone like me. On Monday I did a test ride for a few hours, but then I realized I hadn't recovered at all. The covid, which I have had to deal with in recent months, could again be the cause of all these problems."

"If you break a few bones, you can set a route back to the race. But with covid everything is different and it's much more difficult to deal with mentally. If everything went normally, I'd say my next goal would be the 2023 Tour de France, but given things as they are now, it's really hard to say," Goossens concludes.
