Jonas Vingegaard had strong form at last year's Criterium du Dauphiné and dominated it alongside Primoz Roglic. However, the Dane now leads alone this year and ahead of the Tour de France, he wants to leave his mark in France.
"I feel good. My spring has already gone well and my form is OK. I always enjoy coming here for the Dauphiné because it is a wonderful race. Last year we won it with Roglic. This year I want to win the Dauphiné," Vingegaard said in a press release. He leads a strong team which is built of the majority of the Tour de France block including the likes of Steven Kruijswijk and Christophe Laporte who will be crucial.
Here is a test to the block, working for a common goal of the overall victory. The mountainous eight-day race also includes a decently long time-trial where he's expected to take time on his rivals before the race reaches the Alps. There he will have a long list of strong contenders who may be able to match or top him under the right circumstances.
"I might take it easy in the first stages. Then I will try to get everything out of the time trial before we head into the mountains," the leader of Jumbo-Visma concludes. "I have a strong team and I know everyone is in good shape. We will take things day by day. It has been a while since I have raced, so I am looking forward to it."
