Peter Sagan will go down as one of the most successful riders in the long history of the Tour de France. As the Slovakian comes to the end of his storied road career however, Sagan admits he's glad to see the back of Grand Tour racing.
"Finally. I'm so happy. So glad that it's the last one," the 33-year-old said after reaching the end of the 2023 Tour de France with an 11th placed finish on the Champs-Elysees. "I'm tired, life continues and the show must go on."
A record seven Green Jersey wins and a total of twelve stage victories, Sagan's Tour de France career has been an incredibly successful one. Nevertheless, the relationship between the TotalEnergies rider and the French Grand Tour hasn't always been great.
"I had a good time in road cycling, also in the Tour de France," Sagan explains. "It's the biggest race in the world but I've had enough and I'm happy it's the last one." Sagan will now turn his attention to mountain bike as he attempts to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
