"I've been a world champion, so on my day I'm alright": Tom Pidcock confident in time-trialing skills ahead of Volta ao Alarve's final stage

Tom Pidcock is the current leader of Volta ao Algarve, the INEOS Grenadiers rider goes to the last stage that consists of an individual time trial wearing the leader's jersey. The competition is close from Pidcock and the British hasn't done a individual time trial for some time, but he feels confident stating his 2017 Junior World Title in that discipline.

"I've been a world champion, so on my day I'm alright, I've done a bit, but not an awful lot, I've put more time into it this year than I did last year. I certainly have been working on my position as well", Pidcock said to Cyclingnews,

Pidcock also revelled that his main goal actually wasn't winning the race, but win a stage, a goal that was achieved with his win in Malhão yesterday. But he won't give up his leader's jersey and will give his best to keep it despite not being his main goal. He also revealed his reasons for going to Algarve instead of Argentina, stating that the course of the Volta ao Algarve was more suited to the classics, one of his main goals.

"The goal was to come here and win a stage. The GC was an afterthought. I was always going to go full gas in the TT anyway, so we'll see. If I don't win the GC I'm not going to go to bed crying. That's one of the reasons why I did this race rather than Ruta del Sol – partly because it suits the Classics a bit more but also because of the TT.", he concluded.
