Luke Plapp has had a relatively solid debut year at Team Jayco AlUla in 2024. Despite missing the last three months following a crash at the Olympic Games in Paris, the Aussie national champ isn't done yet either as he returns to lead his team's charge at the Tour of Guangxi.
¨I’m really excited to be back racing and in the peloton," says the 23-year-old Australian in a pre-Tour of Guangxi previews on Team Jayco AlUla's official website. "It’s been a long 3 months since having surgery and recovering from the Olympics, so I just can’t wait to be back racing. I’ve had a good month back on the bike and it feels like a start to a brand-new season now!¨"
Although Plapp was part of the Tour of Guangxi in 2023, then riding for the INEOS Grenadiers, the Australian lasted just three full stages before abandoning on stage 4. ¨"I’m really looking forward to racing in China and giving it a real red-hot crack!" Plapp continues, asserting targets on real general classification success. "It’s going to be a very typical China I believe, with stage 5 being the only real GC day and where we will see the race won."
"I'm hoping to have some good legs and see where I can finish on the climb," Plapp concludes his preview. "We have a super group of boys and always nice to have multiple Aussies at the race, so it is going to be a ripper trip away and fingers crossed we can find some results throughout.¨"
"Plapp is feeling good and is ready to go for the General Classification. We have six stages and they’re not easy.," adds Tristian Hoffman, Team Jayco AlUla Sports Director. "There is always some climbing in it, especially in stage 5 with the hilltop finish. The focus will be for Plapp to be there with the first guys and in the other stages to be there for the breakaways and not losing time."
