Phil Bauhaus came short once again in a bunch sprint of the thirteenth stage at the
Giro d'Italia. The German finished third for the second time, while the
victory went to Jonathan Milan again. The
Bahrain - Victorious sprinter sees there are very limited options on how to beat the Italian.
"It was a good result for me in the second week," Bauhaus opens. "I positioned myself well in Milan's wheel. In the final, Oliveira was on my right and he had finished his lead-out. As a result, I had to brake in the last 200 meters and then it was difficult to gain speed. Then not much can be done."
The German is also impressed by Lidl-Trek's team strength when the formation around Maglia Ciclamino wearer took full control of the final kilometers for their leader. "It is difficult to compete against Lidl-Trek when there are five of them. You have to wait in the wheel and hope you can follow it. It's almost impossible to beat him in such form. Of course he is really good," Bauhaus praises Milan.
Finally, the German sprinter looks back on the echelon formation during the stage. "We knew it would happen. It was about good positioning and it was not difficult to sit at the front. I'm from Germany, so I'm used to wind and flat sections," laughs Bauhaus.
