Italian cycling is in full swing as it prepares for the
European Championships to be held in the Netherlands this Friday morning. One of the most eagerly awaited categories is the U23 road race, and the technical commissioner for this category, Marino Amadori, has announced his selection, clearing up uncertainties around the six called-up riders.
The Italian riders who will compete in this important event are Giacomo Villa of Biesse-Carrera, Andrea Debiasi and Alberto Bruttomesso of Ctf-Victorious, Francesco Busatto of Circus-ReUz-Technord, Davide De Pretto of Zalf Euromobil Désirée Fior and Alessandro Romele of Colpack-Ballan. The selection is a reflection of the wealth and emerging talent in Italian cycling.
On paper, two riders stand out as natural leaders: Francesco Busatto and Davide De Pretto. Busatto, the Italian champion, and De Pretto, who took first place in Liège-Bastogne-Liège this year and finished third in the same competition, are names that carry with them the responsibility of leading the Italian team in this demanding road race.
The hilly and technical course, which will reach its climax on the Col du Vam, seems to be an ideal stage for Busatto and De Pretto, given their skills and experience in this type of terrain.
However, the riders considered wildcards in this Italian team should not be overlooked. Alessandro Romele, Giacomo Villa and Andrea Debiasi, who impressed with his fourth place in the Giro del Friuli, are versatile riders capable of launching attacks from afar or leading the peloton to counter the attempts of other competitors.
Finally, Alberto Bruttomesso, the fastest rider of the six Italians, raises an intriguing question: what will his role be in Amadori's team? His speed could be a strategic advantage in the final stretch of the race, and his ability to unleash explosive efforts could be a valuable asset for Italy.
As for the men's elite road race the team can afford to have high ambitions. Filippo Ganna, Edoardo Affini, Matteo Trentin , Elia Viviani, Luca Mozzato, Andrea Pasqualon, Matteo Sobrero and Mattia Cattaneo will form the lineups that will hunt medals in Drenthe.
