Egan Bernal "eager to start thinking about next year" after completing Vuelta a Espana

The Vuelta a Espana 2023 came to its conclusion with Egan Bernal satisfied with his performance and excited about what he can expect in the coming months.

The six Colombian cyclists who participated in this edition of the Vuelta successfully completed their route since August 26, when it started with the team time trial in Barcelona. Santiago Buitrago, the best Colombian in the general classification, finished in tenth position.

The finish of the Vuelta a España was a satisfying achievement for INEOS Grenadiers' Egan Bernal, as he was able to complete all 21 stages, an accomplishment he also achieved in the recent Tour de France. This represents a significant advance in his recovery process after the accident he suffered the previous year.

Egan Bernal, at the conclusion of stage 21, shared some statements in which he indicated that this would be his last competition of 2023. "I'm happy, satisfied with myself, which is the most important thing, and very motivated for what is to come. I finish the season with this race, I finish mentally fresh and eager to start thinking about next year," he said in an interview with ESPN.

The cyclist from Zipaquirá will use the time remaining in the season to reflect on his performance in 2023, rest and prepare for what lies ahead in 2024.

As for his performance in the Vuelta a España 2023, Egan Bernal finished 55th overall, more than two hours behind Sepp Kuss, who was crowned champion. His best result in this race was in stage 18, where he reached seventh place in a mountain stage. This season, the 26-year-old also managed to finish in the top-10 at the Tour of Hungary and the Tour de Romandie.
