"It was not the goodbye I would have liked" - Peter Sagan's final Flemish spring ended by concussion following Paris-Roubaix crash

TotalEnergies' Peter Sagan was forced out of Paris-Roubaix following a brutal crash. As we knew beforehand, this was always set to be the Slovakian's final Hell of the North and he has now expressed his disappointment at how his last race ended.

"It wasn't the farewell I would have liked at Paris-Roubaix," Sagan writes on his social media. "But such incidents form part of the races." Indeed crashes are very much par for the course at Paris-Roubaix and the cycling gods show no favouritism even if you are a legend of the sport looking for a fairytale ending.

"I'd like to express my gratitude for all the support and well wishes that everybody sent my way, they mean a lot to me," Sagan's post continues. "I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the medical team at the Emergency Department of the Centre Hospitalier de Cambrai as well as the medical staff of TotalEnergies for their care and treatment after my crash."

Having suffered a concussion, Sagan will be forced to spend a few weeks off the bike as is protocol but he is keen to point out that he will return. "Tomorrow, I'll be back home and after some rest, I will be back shortly on my bike to train for the upcoming races. See you soon on the road!"
