Although a quiet day as far as the general classification battle at the Giro d'Italia ensured another day in the Maglia Rosa for Andreas Leknessund, the Norwegian was rather disappointed at the lack of fireworks.
“I felt okay today,” the 23-year-old Team DSM rider revealed in his post-stage interview. “In the end we only race full gas in the last kilometre. Of course, I expected it to be heavier, it was a bit boring. I didn't have to fight for my pink jersey."
Leknessund remains 28 seconds ahead of second-placed Remco Evenepoel in the general classification and he has now broken the Norwegian record for the most days spent in the Maglia Rosa. "It's nice to be able to ride in pink for two more days," he concludes.
The eventual winner of the stage was Davide Bais who took the first victory of his career, finishing over 3 minutes ahead of the group containing the main favourites.
